Atma Environmental was engaged to complete an Environmental Site Assessment at a property in Brooklyn, in response to an EPA Notice to Investigate. EPA’s concerns related to former vehicle wrecking activities, including observed vehicle fuel tanks, hydrocarbon staining, possible stormwater impacts and the potential for land and groundwater contamination.
Atma reviewed recent site history, inspected the property, prepared a Sampling, Analysis & Quality Plan, completed soil sampling at 19 locations and installed and sampled three groundwater monitoring wells. The assessment found no widespread hydrocarbon contamination, no exceedance of human health screening criteria, and low risk to stormwater and nearby waterways. Practical recommendations were provided for drainage pit desilting and stormwater protection measures.
