Atma Environmental completed a complex groundwater assessment for the proposed high-density mixed-use redevelopment of a former industrial site in Hawthorn, which had groundwater impacts from historical dry cleaning, printing, redundant sewer infrastructure and underground storage tanks, with PCE and nitrate identified as key contaminants of concern.
Atma installed a large network of groundwater monitoring wells, interpreted groundwater flow and beneficial use constraints, and supported contaminant fate and transport modelling. The assessment demonstrated that source removal had been completed and that active groundwater remediation was not practicable or commensurate, leading to a CUTEP outcome, GQRUZ controls and a site-specific Groundwater Quality Management Plan for ongoing monitoring and review.
