Glenn Berry
As Principal Environmental Geologist, Director and founder of Atma Environmental, Glenn has continuous contaminated land consulting and hydrogeological experience dating back to 1985.
Glenn’s career has spanned positions in both the consulting and regulatory sectors in Canada, the USA, and Australia. His previous roles include: well site geologist, hydrogeologist, Alberta Dept of Environment special projects, and Manager of environmental contamination consulting services.
After migrating to Australia in 1996, Glenn founded Atma Environmental – specialising in environmental site assessments for contaminated land audits, property transfer assessments, and remediation. Since this time, Glenn has overseen the operations and management of thousands of contaminated land and groundwater assessment, remediation and other projects.
Glenn is a Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP), a member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ), and an active member of the Australian Contaminated Land Consultants Association (ACLCA) M&E focus area.
Rory McPhillips
Rory has more than 19 years experience advising on contaminated land across Australia, the UK and Ireland. He is a trusted advisor on complex contaminated land matters, particularly where projects are high-value, time-sensitive, or subject to regulatory or planning scrutiny.
Rory’s expertise spans the full lifecycle of contaminated land projects, with extensive involvement in statutory Environmental Audits. Rory has advised on a diverse portfolio of sites, including petroleum-impacted land, industrial and manufacturing facilities, sensitive-use developments, landfills, and large-scale residential and mixed-use projects.
He is known for his pragmatic, solutions-focused approach, underpinned by strong technical judgement and a detailed understanding of environmental legislation and audit frameworks..
In addition to his project work, Rory provides independent peer review and expert witness services, including the preparation of expert reports and evidence for planning panels and legal proceedings. Rory has a particular interest and expertise in matters involving planning controls, including the application or removal of Environmental Audit Overlays.
Rory is a Certified Environmental Practitioner – Site Contamination Specialist (CEnvP-SC). He is a member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand and the Australasian Land & Groundwater Association, and serves as a Chair within the Australian Contaminated Land Consultants Association.
The Team
Jared Hammett
Jared Hammett has over 20 years’ experience in environmental consulting in Australia and overseas. Jared commenced his career within a geotechnical consulting firm, where he played a key role in researching, developing, and expanding the company’s environmental consulting services. During this period, he implemented a diverse range of environmental service offerings, progressed to Environmental Team Leader, and oversaw the operation and growth of the firm’s environmental department.
Between 2006 and 2009, Jared was seconded to a multinational consultancy, where he managed day-to-day field operations for a large contaminated land project. This role provided extensive experience in complex site assessments, field management, and stakeholder coordination.
Jared joined Atma Environmental in 2015, applying his depth of experience to the management and delivery of contaminated land and groundwater projects, and supporting clients across a broad range of regulatory and technical challenges.
Gillian Williams
Gillian is an Environmental Scientist with over 15 years experience in the contaminated land industry across Australia. Her experience encompasses environmental audits, due diligence, property divestment, risk management, regulatory compliance and site redevelopment.
Gillian’s project experience crosses a broad range of sectors from property development to waste management, power, defence and rail transport. She has practical experience in the characterisation of soil, soil vapour, landfill gas, surface and groundwater media, site modelling, analysis of field and laboratory data, risk assessment, remediation, and environmental site management.
Gillian’s strong consulting skillset includes project managing medium to large sized assessments.
Kyle O’Brien
Kyle commenced his career back in 2014 in New Zealand as a field technician at a geotechnical/environmental engineering consultancy, progressing to project management and reporting, focused on geotechnical engineering. In 2017 he joined the environmental team, with a range of duties including contaminated land management, on-site wastewater design, on-site stormwater management and flood level reporting.
Since relocating to Australia and joining Atma Environmental, Kyle has received extensive hands-on experience managing a wide range of desktop investigations, detailed site investigations, hydrogeological assessments and remediation projects. He looks forward to meeting the varied professional challenges available at Atma Environmental and his further career growth.
Mei Doherty
Mei commenced her career in Environmental Science in 2017 following the completion of her master’s degree, and began working as a graduate environmental scientist in Coffs Harbour in NSW. Her work involved performing a range of duties including soil contamination assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, domestic wastewater plan management, and technical reporting.
Moving to Melbourne in 2019, Mei has continued to progress her career in environmental consulting by managing a range of projects involving detailed and preliminary site investigations, groundwater management plans, soil waste disposal categorisation, validation assessments, and environmental management plans. .
Richard Burke
Richard is a Graduate Environmental Consultant and an affiliate member of Engineers Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), and brings a valuable combination of academic training and practical trade experience to the environmental consulting sector.
Prior to entering the industry, Richard worked as a locksmith, providing him with practical problem solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and hands-on site experience that translated well into environmental fieldwork and project delivery. He quickly developed a technical capability in landfill gas assessment and monitoring, and has a growing professional interest in contaminated land assessment and hydrogeology.
Richard’s experience spans both large industrial environments and small-scale residential construction sites, giving him a well-rounded appreciation of site constraints, risk pathways and environmental management considerations. He is building skills across preliminary and detailed site investigations, environmental sampling programs, and the assessment of soil, groundwater and vapour conditions. Richard is known for his practical mindset, strong work ethic, and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
Tobe Belfitt
Tobe is an Environmental Consultant with experience in preliminary and detailed environmental investigations for a diverse range of clients throughout Victoria. His experience includes the installation of groundwater monitoring wells, routine gas, soil, ground and surface water sampling/monitoring. Tobe also has experience with GIS mapping and spatial analysis. In his former role as an Environmental Field Technician, Tobe was responsible for repairing and calibrating monitoring equipment, working safely in high-risk environments, and the sampling of gas and odour emissions..
Louise Petersen
Louise has worked in a variety of office support roles over the past decade in the environmental and geotechnical engineering consultancy sector and has provided administrative support on a number of large scale projects. Louise brings excellent time management and organisational skills to maintain efficient office standards.
