Atma Environmental was engaged to assess and support the clean-up of a former service station site in Sunshine, proposed for townhouse-style residential redevelopment. The project responded to EPA Victoria Environmental Action Notice requirements and anticipated environmental audit requirements, following partial tank removal works and concerns about petroleum infrastructure, hydrocarbon odours, lead, fill quality and potential groundwater impacts.
Atma completed a detailed site investigation including soil bores, tank pit assessment, groundwater monitoring wells, multiple groundwater monitoring events and landfill gas screening. The investigation identified fill soil unsuitable for the proposed residential use and remaining underground infrastructure requiring removal. A Clean Up Plan was then prepared to guide building demolition, hazardous materials assessment, UST and oil-petrol interceptor removal, soil remediation, validation sampling, backfilling and final reporting.
