Atma Environmental was engaged to assess whether part of a former textile manufacturing facility in Mowbray, Tasmania was suitable for acquisition and redevelopment as a childcare centre. The assessment considered the site’s former industrial use, nearby chlorinated hydrocarbon contamination, potential asbestos from demolition, imported fill, groundwater quality and vapour intrusion risks for a sensitive future land use.
Atma completed a detailed desktop review, site inspection, GPR survey, asbestos walkover, 10 soil bores, 28 test pits, three new groundwater wells, groundwater sampling and five soil vapour bores. The investigation provided a robust understanding of soil, groundwater and vapour conditions, identified potential TCE vapour considerations, and recommended further vapour sampling and leachability testing to inform risk assessment, mitigation and soil disposal planning.
