Atma Environmental was engaged by a Shire Council to investigate groundwater conditions at a Leisure Centre, where the indoor pool and surrounding structures had experienced steel corrosion and concrete degradation. The assessment focused on groundwater levels, flow directions, perched water, groundwater mounding and groundwater quality trends over a 12-month monitoring period.
Atma installed and monitored a targeted groundwater well network, used data loggers, surveyed internal pool and slab levels, and refined a hydrogeological conceptual site model. The investigation found groundwater was relatively stable and non-aggressive to concrete, while intermittent shallow perched water and seepage within fill beneath the building were likely contributing to moisture ingress around the pool structure.
