Atma Environmental prepared a Remediation Objective Summary for a former quarry and adjacent borrow pit at a proposed public reserve in western Melbourne. The site had been historically impacted by illegal dumping, with approximately 6,600 m³ of mixed waste and soil requiring management before the land could be handed over for future public open space.
Atma developed a targeted remediation approach covering excavation, waste sorting, asbestos controls, waste categorisation, lawful disposal, validation sampling and acceptance criteria suitable for parks and reserves land use. The strategy addressed mixed hard waste, suspected asbestos, chemical drums, tyres, metals impacts and odorous material, while defining a validation framework to ensure the remediation objectives were met.
